Universal City

July 2008 – finally, updates! The theater list should be accurate now, but I have not yet done the phone numbers, new web links, etc. I also bet the ticket prices have gone up in nine years. If you have any details, feel free to leave them in the comments!

AMC

Recording: 818-905-3767 / Voice: 818-508-0711

Theater Type: first run, multiplex (18 screens)
Directions: At Universal CityWalk – exit 101 fwy at Universal City Dr or Lankershim.
Parking Tips: Parking is $6 at CityWalk; theater will refund $2 with ticket purchase (take the slip!). If you’re really broke or really want exercise you can park on Cahuenga and walk up Universal City Drive; meters until 6pm but free afterwards. There’s valet parking available but I’m not sure of prices/policies.
Ticket Prices: 8 adults
4.75 kids 3-11 and seniors 65+
4.75 before 6 weekdays, first show Sa/Su/Hol
Tickets by phone 213-779-CINE
Theaters: 18 – 10 are THX; they own at least 12 DTS units.
Comments: Most of the theaters are pretty good for a multiplex (it’s not very old); even the little baby ones don’t bother me. I’ve been sold out of weekend shows here several times even when arriving more than an hour in advance and I don’t usually try just for a movie, but with all of the shops and restaurants up there it can be a nice way to spend a whole evening. Just buy your tickets first. All kinds of trendy stuff (weird coffee stuff, bakery, etc.) at concession stand.

I can remember a time when where we went to the movies was just as important as the movies we went to see .... From the moment moviegoers arrived to buy their tickets, there was a sense of something special, a feeling that to step inside was to enter another time and place. - Gene Kelly
