It was hollow and made me sleepy is about the kindest (if lamest) thing I can say about this snoozer. The script sucks; the story deviates from the original in needlessly complicated ways, replacing suspense with shocks. The photography bugged me; the whole film seemed to be lit in even grey, which is hardly atmospheric. I thought the whole film was photographed on sound stages and not real woods. I don't know what Burton cared about, but it wasn't the legend of the title. C-
