What a great year at the movies this has been, and it's still early November. I'm a big fan of Michael Mann, Al Pacino, Russell Crowe and cinematographer Dante Spinotti, and yet the film managed to completely excede my inflated expectations. There's far more in this film than you get in the advertising - for once, they did something right and in the trailers you don't see anything past the first half. It's not just cigarettes; it's it's both men against faceless corporations. This film is proof that real drama is not always melodramatic, and the only way to top the best gun fight ever (Mann's "Heat") is to make a film without a single shot fired. A+
