The Green Mile | 10 Dec 99 |
It's hard not to compare this to "The Shawshank Redemption", since both are Frank Darabont adapting a Stephen King period prison novel. This time, we get a more immediate, visceral experience, with a more assured hand behind each scene. But the overall effect isn't as hopeful and uplifting as I had, well, hoped. I had an amazingly moving time watching this film, with certain scenes really approaching a feeling of magic, but I didn't leave it with quite the sense of a glowing future I got from the first one. I'm not sure I can really fault a film for that. Note: there are several execution scenes that are very intense. A
