Eyes Wide Shut 30 Jul 99

Much like "Phantom Menace", Kubrick's last film has an overdose of expectations to contend with. Eyes Wide Shut, though, is a little film about one particular couple and doesn't really pretend to be much of anything else, no matter what you've heard about it. The dialogue and story frequently don't fit with the contemporary setting - many things still feel like the 1920's of the original novel, and in fact, those are the elements that work best - but still, you know while watching you're in the hands of a master storyteller. You may not agree with how he got there, but he certainly took you on a trip. A
